| Hitachi GST is forecasting the dawn of a new age in storage technology that it
has dubbed the “Tera Era.” As the amount of digital information created,
captured and duplicated around the world grew at an uninterrupted, unrelenting
pace, hard drive capacities steadily advanced from megabytes to gigabytes, thus
enabling drives with media-rich content.
Today we have come to expect the computing power and flexibility to share
our digital work and personal lives and we want to be able to access our digital
content from anywhere in the world at any time. And, no matter where we are
in the world or what time it is or who we want to share our data with, that
data ultimately still resides on hard disk drives.
This need has led us to a new era of storage where a single hard disk drive
can store 250,000 MP3s, 300 movies or over 333,000 photos. This is the Tera
Era. |
