John Viera Named Sr. Vice President of Human Resources

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Mar. 31, 2009 – Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) today announced the appointment
of John Viera to the position of Senior Vice President of Worldwide Human Resources.
In his new role, John will have global responsibility for all aspects of the
company's Human Resources function. He will be based at Hitachi GST headquarters
in San Jose, California.

John brings more than 30 years of executive management experience to Hitachi
GST. Before joining the team, John served in senior management Human Resources
roles at Maxtor, Octel Communications, Avantek, KLA Tencor and the Strayer
Consulting Group.
