Deskstar 7K1000

CRN

"Hitachi Global Storage Technologies makes exceptionally good drives. Case in point: Hitachi's new large Deskstar 7K1000 SATA drive performed well when placed under constant I/O testing for days. The 7K1000 is 1 Tbyte in size so it is large enough for the most demanding jobs on servers and PCs."

"We were gobsmacked by the performance of the Deskstar 7K1000. It's a seriously quick drive. The performance is no doubt thanks in part to the 32MB on board data buffer. Unfortunately, we couldn't test the performance of this drive in RAID 0 but can only imagine how well it would perform as a dedicated setup for Vista or XP rigs. Hitachi have gone all out to produce an outstanding hard drive. In fact it's so good we recommend throwing away your Raptors for a couple of these babies. The massive amount of storage space and ultra quiet performance is the icing on the cake satisfying demands for high powered multimedia machines with ease, not to mention bragging rights down at the local. If you're in the market for some big storage, the Deskstar should be your first port of call.

Nice one Hitachi!"

"On March 16, 2007, UPS delivered to our storage test lab a shipment from Hitachi, which we had anticipated for several weeks. The box contained the world's first hard drive with a total capacity of 1 terabyte (1 TB): the Deskstar 7K1000.....Hitachi's new Deskstar 7K1000 is clearly worth recommending for those with huge storage requirements."

"All things considered -- including the price, $400! -- Hitchai's 7K1000 rocks. Absolutely rocks. It's speeds are certainly comparable, and in most cases better than, the current batch of similarly sized market leaders. And that's without even considering the big picture; you're getting a terabyte of storage. A terabyte. 1,000 gigabytes. And it's only $400!"

"We consider the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 the best 7200 rpm drive we have tested to date. This is quite the accomplishment considering this is Hitachi's first 3.5" form factor drive that utilizes perpendicular recording technology. We found the write performance and sustained transfer rates to be excellent and class leading in several of our test results. The drive also offers a very balanced blend of performance across a wide variety of business and home applications. The 7K1000 even has the best overall thermal and acoustic characteristics of the high performance 7200 rpm drives in our tests. For these reasons, we award the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 our Gold Editors' Choice award and highly recommend the purchase of this drive if you are currently looking for a high-capacity drive with performance to match."

Travelstar 5K160

StorageReview.com
July 2007
Across the board, Hitachi's workhorse offers the best 5400 RPM performance out of all tested 5400 RPM 2.5" drives. Further, the 5K160 delivers on the firm's ambitious power draw claims and dissipates the fewest watts of any drive. It is an easy choice for those looking to balance performance with cool, quiet, and (battery-wise) long-lasting operation.

"On real-world benchmarks are the best indication of application performance, and the 7K200 proves there to be a great choice for a high performance notebook hard drive. Usually you pay high prices for good products and the Travelstar 7K200 makes part of both groups, but you DO get what you pay for. If you are looking for a high quality and fast notebook hard drive, the Hitachi 7K200 is easily recommended!"

"We finally got our hands on one of the new single-disk 1-terabyte hard drives--the Hitachi External Hard Drive (also referred to as the "Easy Hard Drive" on Hitachi's site). Hitachi packaged its Deskstar 7K1000 1-terabyte, 3.5-inch hard drive into a small and simple external USB storage device. It has one-touch backup capability, and the whole package performs quite well. It was the fastest drive we've recently tested over a USB connection, and at $400 for the 1-terabyte version, the price versus performance is well-justified. This drive is a good buy."

"As we have come to expect from Hitachi, the firm's latest notebook drive ups the ante when it comes to bleeding edge speed. Improvements that average 25% over the older 7K100 leave the Travelstar 7K200 at lofty heights never before reached by a notebook drive when it comes to both productivity applications and entertainment titles."
