| Based on improved HDD design methodology
and manufacturing techniques, the quality of drives is continually
improving as indicated by MTBF (mean time before failure) specifications
provided by the industry. Remember MTBF is the time before which
1/2 on a specific drive population can be expected to fail.
In the late 1980's disk drive specifications indicated a MTBF
of 200 Khours while today's drives are specified at 1.2 million
hours or longer. At this rate of improvement, the hard disk
drive has become one of the most reliable means of storing data,
and further improvements are expected. |
