| A result of increasing track densities faster
than linear densities is the progressive transition to more
"squarer" bits. This bit aspect ratio is approaching
a five to one ratio in current high density disk drives, and
this trend is expected to continue. This newer bit geometry
exhibits improved thermal stability with respect to delaying
the superparamagnetic effect. It is anticipated that the trend
towards "squarer" bit geometries will continue with
aspect ratios falling below 4. |
