Notebook PC Issues

Issues   Action or possible solution

Drive not recognized

 
  1. Is the PC card port recognized?
  2. If no, have you ever used the PC card before?

PC card adapter not recognized

 
  1. Activate PC card services.
  2. Was the operating system installed by the factory?
    -If yes, has the operating system been re-installed?
    -If yes, make sure the PC adapter card drivers are updated.

No drive letter assigned

 
  1. Was the supplied device driver installed when first using the drive?
  2. Make sure that the Int 13 unit checkbox in the device properties is checked.  Open the System icon in the Control Panel. Then go to the Device Manager tab, under disk drives, open the Properties for the disk drive associated with the Microdrive. The device may show up as a "GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE".
  3. The system may not have available resources to assign a drive letter to the Microdrive. See checking system resources for possible solutions.

Drive not recognized when system is rebooted

 

Make sure the installation package for the Microdrive is installed. Click here to download the installation package.

Drive not recognized by FDISK

 

Make sure that the PC card drivers for Windows are the latest version.

Digital Camera Issues

Issues   Action or possible solution

Drive does not fit

 

Make sure the slot on the camera is a Type II (5mm) slot.

Camera does not recognize the drive

 
  1. Check to see if another host system, such as a notebook PC, recognizes the drive.
  2. The Microdrive is formatted using FAT16 before it is shipped from the factory. If you reformatted the drive, make sure you format using FAT16 and not FAT32. You can use the display option of FDISK to display the partition information for the Microdrive.

Drive does not fit

 

Make sure the slot on the camera is a Type II (5mm) slot.

Drive does not eject or no eject mechanism provided on the device

 
  1. Try to use the stylus to "hook" the drive.
  2. Attach a piece of tape to the drive to use as a tab to remove the drive from the CompactFlash slot. (Use caution, as tape may cause the drive to become stuck in the CompactFlash slot).

Drive will not copy large files

 
  1. Try to use the stylus to "hook" the drive.

Drive spins up and then spins down

 
  1. Is the operating system Windows CE 2.11 or higher?
  2. Is the handheld or Palm PC running off battery power?

No storage folder present

 
  1. Is the operating system Windows CE 2.11 or higher?
  2. Make sure that the device drivers are installed.
  3. Check the processor to make sure the correct device driver is installed.

iPAQ H3600 devices do not recognize Microdrive
