Before you begin
- Make sure that the desktop or notebook computer used with the handheld PC has Windows CE
Services 2.x installed. A Mobile Devices icon is placed on the desktop when Windows CE
Services is installed.
- If your handheld PC only has a PCMCIA type II slot, a PC card adapter is required.
How to install the device driver:
- Download the device driver:
- Download the device driver for the processor type used in the hand held PC to a
temporary directory on the desktop/notebook computer. See how
to determine the handheld PC processor type if you do not know what type of
processor is in the handheld PC.
- Open Windows Explorer on the desktop/notebook computer and locate the device driver file
you downloaded.
- Double-click on the file name.
- Click the Extract button when the PKZIP window is displayed. This will extract the
atadisk.dll file to your Windows desktop.
- Connect the handheld PC to the desktop/notebook computer:
- Connect the handheld PC to the desktop/notebook computer using the serial interface
cable provided with the handheld PC. Windows CE Services automatically detects
that the handheld PC is connected to the desktop/notebook computer and assigns a folder
for the handheld PC.
- Make sure all CF and PC card slots are empty in the handheld PC.
- Copy the device driver (atadisk.dll) to the handheld PC.
- On the desktop/notebook computer, open Windows Explorer and double-click on the Mobile

- If your handheld PC has a CompactFlash type II slot, insert the Microdrive into the
slot. Otherwise, you will need to use a PC card adapter to insert the device into
a PCMCIA type II slot on the handheld PC.
- When Windows CE recognizes the drive, a storage folder for the drive is created under My
Handheld PC.

To uninstall the device driver, erase the atadisk.dll file in the \windows directory of
the handheld PC.
